What Drives Me — Values, Mindset, and Life in Utah as Lex Maynez

As I continue building my education, identity, career, and future, I always come back to a simple question: What drives me? My name is Lex Maynez, and Utah has been the backdrop for much of my journey. The values I’ve developed here shape how I work, how I think, and the kind of person I strive to be.
Utah isn’t just where I live — it’s a place that influences my mindset every day. The mountains, the community, the pace of life, and the culture here all played a part in forming the core principles I carry with me.
Value #1 — Consistency Creates Progress
One of the biggest lessons Utah taught me is that consistency matters more than intensity. Whether it’s studying for my MBA, working on personal projects, staying active, or developing new habits, consistent effort moves you closer to the life you want.
In Utah, people show up — for their goals, their families, and their communities. Being surrounded by that energy taught me to do the same.
Value #2 — Take Ownership of Your Path
Growing up and living in Utah made me understand the importance of taking responsibility for my actions and direction. No one can build your life for you — you have to decide what you want and work toward it.
That’s how I approach everything:
- Education
- Health
- Work
- Personal goals
- Relationships
Utah reinforced the idea that your path is something you create, not something you wait for.
Value #3 — Balance Matters
Life here in Utah has a natural balance — peaceful but motivated, calm but focused. That balance carries into how I live my day-to-day life.
Yes, I work hard. But I also:
- Go to the gym
- Play basketball
- Spend time outside
- Take care of my health
- Make time for the people who matter
Balance keeps me grounded. It keeps me human.
Value #4 — Growth Comes From Discomfort
I used to think growth had to feel easy. Utah taught me the opposite. Growth usually comes from stepping into something unfamiliar — school challenges, new responsibilities, new phases of life.
Some of the biggest turning points in my life came from moments of discomfort. Utah made me comfortable with that. When you’re surrounded by mountains, it’s hard not to think about climbing.
Value #5 — Gratitude Keeps You Centered
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that gratitude changes everything. Utah gives me many things to be grateful for:
- Stability
- Opportunity
- Community
- Beautiful places to reset
- A clean, peaceful environment
- A foundation that helped me become who I am
When life gets busy, gratitude keeps everything in perspective.
Utah’s Influence on My Mindset
Living in Utah County has shaped the way I carry myself. My mindset — steady, disciplined, open to growth — comes from a combination of personal experiences and the environment around me.
Utah influenced me by teaching me:
- To slow down when needed
- To keep pushing when it matters
- To appreciate the journey
- To focus on the person I’m becoming
Those lessons guide every decision I make.
Who I’m Becoming
My story is still unfolding, and I’m still growing every day. As Lex Maynez, someone building a future through education, fitness, creativity, professionalism, and discipline, I’m grateful for the mindset Utah helped me develop.
The values I carry now will continue shaping my life — wherever it leads next. Utah gave me the foundation. The rest is up to me.
